Admission Information

Thank you for your interest in Cape Fear Christian Academy. CFCA is a non-denominational Christian school, serving the residents of Harnettand surrounding counties since 1969.Mission StatementThe primary mission of CFCA is to provide excellence in academics while building strong character and integrity in the lives of our student body. We educate and train young men and women in a nurturing Christian environment to become leaders of conviction.Admission InformationStudents are admitted to CFCA on the basis of previous performance, personal references, headmaster interview, and results of the placement test. All new students are placed on academic and behavioral probation for the first year. A request for admittance will be denied if a student has been expelled from another school or if an opening is not available. CFCA maintains standards of student dress, conduct and scholarship. School policies are outlined in the parent-student handbook, and made available to all new incoming students. You are welcome to visit the school at anytime. If you would like to do so, please contact Mrs.Cherie Short at 910-891-9076 or email, cfcaadmissions_gmail.com. Mrs. Short will answer any questions that you may have, and send you an application. Students wishing to enroll will be asked to provide a copyof the following: birth certificate, updated shot record and a copy of their most recent report card. These items will suffice until a copy of the transcripts can be sent (pending acceptance). Two letters of recommendation will be required, one from a former teacher and one from your pastor. If you are not currently attending a church other sources may be considered. Cape Fear Christian’ Quick FactsThe 2007-2008 school year saw an all-time high enrollment of 310; a record 10 new faculty members; and the largest graduating class in school history.The student-teacher ratio is 11:1.CFCA has 17 athletic teams with varsity teams that are often among the best in the state according to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association rankings. The school's softball team has finished third or better in the state each of the last five years, including two state championships.Cape Fear participates in scholastic competitions such as ACSI, Tar Heel Cup, and the Brain Game.Cape Fear's average California Achievement Test scores ranked higher than 78 percent of national scores.Cape Fear graduates have moved onto schools such as UNC-CH, NCSU, N.C. A&T, Wake Forest, Barton, Campbell, Shaw, Meredith, UNC-W, ECU, High Point, Fayetteville State, Wingate and Western Carolina.

Philosophy of EducationThe educational process in a Christian school is dependent on a biblical philosophy that provides the right world view and essential truths for life so that children may be prepared to assume their proper place in the home, the church and the State. Accordingly, the following is the purpose and philosophy of education for Cape Fear Christian Academy:Cape Fear Christian Academy's purpose and philosophy is to provide a Christian based education for its students. The Academy provides an environment concerned with the total growth and development of the individual. The emphasis shall be academic excellence in a Christian environment. The home, the church and the school should complement each other in promoting the student's spiritual, academic, social and physical growth. While the student is at the school, the headmaster and teacher(s) stand in the place of the parents, which is one of authority and responsibility.Thus, it is incumbent upon the headmaster and every teacher and coach to possess and model moral values based upon Christian principles and to reflect a genuine concern for the total development of the student(s) under their care. It is a goal of the Academy to best meet the needs of its students by providing academically superior programs using the latest in educational advancement with a blend of Bible study, prayer and activities promoting love for God, extracurricular social functions, fine arts and a strong athletic program.

History

Cape Fear Christian Academy was organized in 1969, making it the oldest private school in Harnett County. A small group of businessmen with godly convictions sought to establish a Christian school for their children and others in the community. They wanted the school to provide an education that incorporated the Bible and Christian values into the academic curriculum. Four decades later, the school maintains its Christian heritage and continues to hold weekly chapel services for its faculty and students.CFCA is a private school that in some ways functions like many traditional schools. It enforces a regular and continual attendance record and offers athletics, pageants, a college-prep curriculum, and student leadership and training. But Cape Fear also offers its own unique activities, such as fall festivals, the senior classic basketball tournament, breakfasts with Santa and the Easter Bunny, raffles, daily devotions, and weekly Chapel.The present facilities were built in 1971 on five acres of land located in the southeast corner of Harnett County. A new elementary building was added in 2000 to accommodate the growth of enrollment. In 2007 the school bought ** acres of land which is now used for soccer and softball fields and a field house.CFCA graduated its first class in May 1976 and continues to provide the community with well-rounded leaders. The school is located just off Highway 421, five miles west of Dunn and four miles south of Campbell University in Buies Creek.

Whether its basic counting in pre-Kindergarten or advanced calculus in high school, Cape Fear Christian Academy encourages students to do their best so they can be their best. High school, which includes the standard grades of 9th (freshman), 10th (sophomore), 11th (junior) and 12th (senior), functions on a modified block schedule with students taking four courses each semester. High school classes reflect a college preparatory curriculum with honors options for students. Testing includes entrance exams, the CAT test for freshmen only, the PSAT for sophomores, the ASVAB for juniors and the SAT for juniors and seniors.

Middle School

Middle school, which includes the standard 6th, 7th and 8th grades, focuses on four main subject areas — Language Arts/English, Math, Science and History. Other areas of study include Art, Physical Education, Health, Music and Bible. Other options are a study hall/tutoring class and Spanish. Testing areas for middle school students are entrance exams and the CAT test.The middle school day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Students are in eight class periods in the day and homeroom, break and lunch.

Elementary education consists of pre-Kindergarten, K-5, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Each classroom implements learning in the four base subjects of math, science, language arts and history. Within the language arts components, heavy emphasis is placed on developing better reading, writing and spelling skills. Complementing the base subjects is aweekly schedule of Art, Music, and Physical Education. Testing for elementary students includes entrance exams and the CAT test.The Pre-School offers planned learning activity programs for 3 and 4 year olds using the A Beka curriculum. Children are enrolled for full days.The elementary and preschool day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.A before and after school care program provides supervised activities for children of working parents. The program begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.

Art Class

Students in all grades are given the opportunity to work in several fine arts and auxiliary programs. They can take Spanish, Music, Art, Media/Library, Physical Education and Health.The art program is available in elementary, middle and high school. Students have art exhibitions throughout the year where their artwork is displayed for purchase and awards. Such exhibitions are the Art Extravaganza and Art Festival/Sale both in the spring.Physical Education and Health is offered for all grade levels as well. Students are required to do state mandated physical assessments. Each year students participate in the Jump Rope for Heart program. This year Cape Fear raised $3,500.

CFCA offers its students many activities outside of academics and athletics. The monthly calendar on the upper left of this page includes upcoming individual events and/or activities. Students also participate in various clubs and organizations. Ministry Events

Chapel and DevotionsWeekly chapel is an important part of the complete educational experience at Cape Fear Christian Academy. Various speakers and musicians share their Christian witness with the student body. Certain classrooms also provide music, skits and messages for chapel services. Chapel takes place on Wednesdays with elementary and preschool students meeting at 8:30 a.m. and middle and high school students at 10 a.m.Teachers ensure that daily devotion and prayer is observed in every homeroom class.
